The garden helpers did a great job so I stopped by to take a picture. It looks really good for the end of January. Thanks to rain, and great help.
And "Martin's Monument" is nearing completion. The picture on the right was taken this morning and I think the stone masons will finish up today. Next.. the head stone guy will affix the large brass plaque with history of the Matzke Parke preservation and development by the Association of Better Community Schools. That will happen sometime next week when Martin returns from Colorado. Martin Heemer is one of the charter members of that organization and he has worked for the past year and a half to create the plaque, find the stone, and oversee the construction during the last month. It will be a nice addition to the park and a fitting tribute to the ABCS board members who made it all happen.
Information in support of NGC, the gardens of Matzke Park, and our home gardens. A 501c3, Association for Better Community Schools (ABCS), was founded in 1994 and successfully preserved these 20 acres for public use. In 2007 ABCS and Norchester Garden Club (NGC) members developed, and still maintain, the Butterfly Garden. NGC projects, meeting notices, and programs are reported here and the public is welcome to participate. Email questions or comments to ABCS.Park@att.net

Monday Feb 20 - Planting Day
The third time is the charm. While it looks like it may not be actually raining heavily this morning, we went to the garden yesterday and it is quite soggy. So, making it easy on ourselves, we will postpone planting the flats of petunias for the third time. We will shoot for Monday, Feb 20 at 9:00 AM

Maybe Friday
The wonderful rain continues this week, so our work day for Friday Feb 17 is a "maybe". Carol will send out an email, as well as an update here by 7:30 AM on Feb 17 if we need to postpone once again. If so, the make-up day will be the morning of Feb 20 at 9:00. As a reminder.. the plan is to plant several flats of petunias while Helper #1 fixes the fence once again.
Despite the rain and misty weather.. the "Martin Monument" continues to progress as seen from today's picture.

Rain Delay
It looks more and more like rain on Friday morning so we will all sleep in (right) and not worry about the planned work party at the Garden. The petunias will wait another week. Let's plan on 9:00 AM on Friday, Feb 17 for another try.

Stone Up and Work Day on the 10th
It feels like spring and the rain is great. Work is progressing on the ABCS monument that commemorates the initial work that "Saved Matzke Park" from becoming a strip mall. The concrete has been poured, and the large stone should be set this week.
Update... stone was set today, Feb 2. The walk will be covered with flagstone, and the concrete base will be covered with small moss rocks on Tuesday, the 7th. Then the brass plaque will be attached.
We will have a Garden Work Day on Friday the 10th from 9-11 to plant 3 flats of petunias. Come with any plant recommendations that you might have for the garden. We have plenty of milkweed but other ideas are welcome.
