The southern flannel moth, or puss moth caterpillar, Megalopyge opercularis. In Texas these caterpillars are commonly known as “asps”. appeared on my climbing rose in NW Houston

Be very careful with this guys as they have painful stingers.  It is easy for pets or children to be curious about this "ugly" looking thing.

An Invitation

Club Visits Chappell Hill

We had such a nice day in Chappell Hill.

We came home with full tummies after our lunch at the Honeysuckle Coffee Bistro, which is featured on page 16 of your November issue of Better Homes and Gardens!!!!

And, of course, trunks full of beautiful, healthy plants from the Bluebonnet House and Garden Center in Chappell Hill as well as information about plants that grow well in our neck of the woods.

What a good day!

2018 First Norchester Garden Club Meeting

The Norchester Garden Clubs first meeting of the 2018 - 2019 year will be held at 9:30 am on Thursday, September 6th at the Norchester Activity Center.  You do not need to be a member of the Norchester Community to enjoy our programs and you are always welcome to drop in.

Conn Steele will be presenting our program on Roses and More.  In addition to hearing about the care and feeding of roses - and more, from a life-long gardener,
we have some important decisions to make at our first meeting.

Update on Reward Program... one no longer has to re-enroll each year.  If the bottom of your Kroger receipt looks like this.. you are still enrolled.  See previous post to enroll for the first time.

Kroger Community Rewards.. Minor Change

Currently have only a few families supporting the Matzke Park Butterfly Garden by having their Kroger cards linked to Association for Better Community Schools (ABCS), It is important to know that if you sign up with the Kroger Community Rewards program, every Kroger purchase will provide an additional amount that Kroger gives ABCS, who then gives it all to the Norchester Garden Club for the Butterfly Garden Support.

This does not impact a person's fuel points or cost them anything.

We have been informed of the following.  If you are willing to sign up, be advised our new Community Rewards  number is now WT732.

==============
We have recently upgraded our Community Rewards system, and as a result, your Non-Profit Organization (NPO) has a new account number. (WT732) Please reference the new number when contacting us for assistance. We recommend communicating this new number to your members, and updating any marketing materials with this change. While the previous number will continue to be associated with your organization, it will not be visible to your members when enrolling. New members can enroll by searching for either the new number or the name of your organization.

Kroger Community Funds Program Update

Thank you to those few households that are contributing to the maintenance of Matzke Park Butterfly Garden by having your Kroger card linked to ABCS.  Every penny is accounted for and very much needed for continuance of the garden.  The fencing was paid for and repainted by Precinct 4.  The garden continues to flourish including weed vines and weeds that need to be removed.  Stop by and see the results of your support!

A quarterly check  from Community Rewards Program from Kroger is typically about $40.00

2018 New Year Begins

Matzke Butterfly Garden is looking very much like the dreary skies we have been having.  Janet, Kathleen, Joan and Carol lent their hands to clipping and clean up on the gingers, turks cap, candy corn salvia, crepe myrtles and dead salvias.  One of the beds is run a muck with fire ants hills! Please be watchful. Thank goodness the Park guys pick our clippings.

Garden Club January 2018 Meeting

Some terrific reasons to join a garden club: Fun with friends; interesting places to go; introduction to new and current plants; free plants; plant challenges; door prizes but most of all fun with friends.  Guest speaker today was Tom Keepin on Vanda slat basket planting.  Tom brought a lot of begonias and Vanda slat baskets and 5 of our members put together a basket to take home.  Plus we all got a free plant and Tom generously shared his knowledge.  He has become a great friend to our group.  He also donated the huge begonia.  We meet the lst Thursday of each month Sept-May.  We have many exciting programs and trips, guests are welcome to visit at the Norchester activity center on Jones Road in the subdivision of Norchester.
